W: Hello Gogo, thanks to be there with us here for this remote interview, I’ve really appreciated the black and white artworks you did, your profile pic on the Web is black and white too, is that the way you prefer to exprim yourself, more than with colors…?
Gogo: Hi Franck, thank you for your invitation.
As a mater of fact, I do love sketching and painting black and white but I would not say I prefer this from colors. It simply depends on what I want to paint and how I vision it at the particular moment. Let’s say sometimes inspiration comes in b/w and other times, wears colorful clothes!
W: In many colored artworks we can easily define a dominant color, is that a basis in your technique, in your style, something like a -colored- signature ?
Gogo: Most of the times when I start a painting, I do imagine a color playing the dominant role, by which I try to show the emotion that I want my painting to have.
Also, there are times that a specific color motivates me, so I stand in front of the canvas thinking “I want to paint something green!” and it is then, that the color defines my subject.
W: You are hosting the group Full Moon on redbubble.com, we can recognize the moon in the Selini artworks, with some imagination see the full moon too in Bubbling and Milo artworks, why not, but no trace about a full moon dedicated artwork, are you working on it…is the full moon means something special for you?
Gogo: Well, I wouldn’t say that it means that much to me. I co-host this beautiful group in redbubble, mostly as a tribute to this great community of artists and I really enjoy doing it when I have free time.
W: You said “I get inspired by scenes my eyes or my soul can see, like nature, everyday life, my dreams, people, music, favorite movies…” how and why you decide to paint a subject, it is all about instant emotions, colors, or what else ?
Gogo: The truth is, it comes more as a need. Words I’d like to say loud through my art, beauty I try to capture, emotions I need to transform into an image, a story into a single picture, colors, etc. I try as much as I can to sketch my ideas and keep notes of possible subjects. There are so many possibilities that I often find myself in between artworks, and that’s why I have so many unfinished!
W: “Blue”, a Fine Art Print you sell at etsy.com seems you best expression and technique, users welcomes this artwork, how do you feel about, how this particularly deep blue and black portrait was ideated ?
Gogo: “Blue” is a painting that means a lot to me, and I m very happy by the feedback. Recently a guy sent me a message telling me that he liked it so much, that he made a tattoo out of it! I’m curious to see the outcome..
“Blue” was simply created in a time that I was feeling “blue” and I needed to express it in my own way, so I tried to depict my emotion in this female portrait..
W: What could we expect for 2010, new paints, exhibitions, music album covers, what’s next with Gogo ?
Gogo: Besides several unfinished paintings that are waiting for me, I want to start working on large format paintings and try new techniques with oil paints. I’m also planning to work on a set of paintings, so as to participate in exhibitions. And I would like to work on a project I wished for a long time, the illustration for a children’s book. Generally, some stable steps ahead.
